Traditional Colours of Japan

On my recent visit to Japan I was given these two beautiful books - The Traditional Colours of Japan and The Traditional Japanese Colour Palette.

Beautifully designed they illustrate a range of traditional Japanese crafts from pottery, to kimonos, laquerware and illustrations, all with the purpose of elucidating the traditional Japanese palette of colours, how they are used to represent the seasons and how they are combined.

I have found them very inspiring in relation to planting colour schemes, as there is usually a gentle dissonance of colour  within the harmonious combinations, which I find exciting. I would urge anyone with an interest in colour of Japan to buy them.
